I disagree with what Evan says. Why would Thebedi kill her own child if she knew that nothing would happen to her because of the child? Clearly she wouldn't be punished because the child had already been accepted by the people of her community. For example her husband treated the child as his own andeven went as far as to spend what little money her had on her. Now Paulus, on the other hand, knew that if people of his ethnicity found out they would not be as accepting. So clearly he had the motive to kill the child not Thebedi.
