In response to Evan's post, I agreed about the part where they truly loved each other in the beginning.  However, I disagree when you said Thebedi killed the baby.   I don't think she did because nothing would happen if she did kill it.  The child was already accepted by her community and killing it would only be an act of evil.   However, I think Paulus killed it because he had a reason to.  Its a shame to have a black child and he wanted to erase the evidence of ever having it.  I think that Thebedi still loved Paulus but Paulus could not love her back anymore because of the baby.
