Life during the apartheid was bad for the Africans because of the superiority the Afrikaners had over them, and the in the ways they used their power. There was an understanding between paulus and thebedi that because of their skin they could not be together. Paulus would be upset about the society they lived in, keeping them apart. In the end, paulus was found not guilty and let go.
