initial response

This story, Country Lovers, is a horrifying story about the truths of apartheid's history. The fact that two people had a child out of love and then one of them kills that child because he is so afraid is a scary idea. Paulus and Thebedi were clearly in love but both understood that it could never happen between the two of them. This is sort of sad because I have always believed that true love is true love no matter what conditions there is. Meaning if two people are in love then nothing should prevent it. Apartheid prevented it and also caused Paulus to do what he did to the child. I also liked the fact that even though Paulus was white and Thebedi was African along with the child he was still taken to court and tried for what he did. This I thought, was justice even though he wasn't found guilty.
